Overview

As an content creator for Envato Elements, I set out to design an event poster template that breaks away from the overly corporate or minimal look common in running posters. The “50K Run for the Future” concept was created to fill a gap in the market for raw, youth-driven, street-style visuals aimed at community runs, charity marathons, and urban fun-run events.

Challenge

Designing a grunge or mixed-media template for a stock marketplace presents two core challenges: readability and ease of customization. While textured, high-energy visuals are essential to the concept, critical information such as date, location, and registration details must remain instantly legible. At the same time, the template needed a clean layer structure so non-professional designers could easily edit colors and images without breaking complex textures or effects.

Solution

I applied an “organized chaos” approach to balance expressive visuals with clear information hierarchy. High-contrast colors with deep purple and red elements paired with acid green highlights were used to ensure strong visibility in crowded search results. To maintain text clarity over busy backgrounds, I introduced paper-tear effects that create clean negative space for key messages like prizes and calls to action. Halftone textures were layered over runner photography to visually unify raster images with vector elements, resulting in a cohesive retro screen-print aesthetic.

Results

The template became one of the stronger-performing assets in my Envato Elements portfolio. It achieved high download rates among youth-oriented and campus event organizers, received positive ratings for its Smart Object workflow, and proved flexible enough to be adapted beyond running events, including music festivals and cross-training competitions.
